
Texas School Voucher Program (TEFA)
The Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) program—often called the Texas school voucher program—uses state tax funds to help families pay for approved educational expenses, including private school tuition. Schools that choose to participate must meet specific state requirements in order to receive those funds.
While these rules may work well for some schools, they change how a school operates in ways that don’t align with the educational freedom many homeschool-minded families value.
Requirements for Schools in the Texas School Voucher Program
Participating schools must:

Be accredited by an organization recognized by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission or the Texas Education Agency

Administer a nationally norm-referenced standardized test each year to participating students in grades 3–12

Share student assessment results as required under program rules

Follow financial oversight, reporting, and compliance procedures set by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts

Meet ongoing operational and administrative requirements tied to participation in a state-funded program
These expectations introduce layers of accreditation, testing, reporting, and oversight that are different from the independent, family-directed model our community prefers.
For that reason, Meadow Creek Academy has chosen not to participate in the Texas school voucher program (TEFA). This allows us to remain focused on flexible learning, strong relationships, and an approach shaped by families rather than state systems.
